Let's Talk About SEVEN SECRETS #3

BOOM! Studios has released Seven Secrets #3, and I like where this is going. The comic is written by Tom Taylor and features art by Daniele Di Nicuolo and colors by Walter Baiamonte. You can purchase a copy from your local comic store or if you like digital copies you can go to outlets including comiXology.

The only thing standing between Caspar and his dream of protecting one of the Secrets -- and getting to know the mother who abandoned him -- is the Trials. Caspar is pitted against the best and brightest of his generation, fighting for his life -- but will it be worth the cost of winning?

After the preview, we get to the funeral of Sigurd. Caspar feels strange going since he didn’t really know his dad, but afterwards, Eva gives him a metal chest full of things that Sigurd wanted to give him. She also told him the biggest secret in their society, that Sigurd loved Caspar, and gave him a kiss. It’s so sweet and sad. Inside the chest are things that Sigurd had collected over the 15 years of Caspar’s life including one of his jackets, a copy of London Calling by The Clash, George Orwell’s 1984, The Deep (a graphic novel written by Taylor), and a copy of We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #1 (another comic from BOOM! Studios that I enjoy) to name a few.

Caspar then has to compete in The Trials with Titus, Dion, and Fel. The trials are grueling and really test them. Caspar thinks outside the box and ends up winning the privilege of being the Holder of the seventh secret with Eva being his Keeper. Also, it turns out that Tajana had a lot of faith in Caspar as she had given him the real case for the seventh secret during the trials. Wow. Can you imagine what would’ve happened had he lost? That would’ve been embarrassing.

At the end, a small boat explodes in the base and the evil guy, Amon, appears with some cool looking henchmen. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, though, and they were just in the neighborhood. That’s a thing. Right?

I really liked this issue of Seven Secrets because I feel it wraps up a lot of the backstory and exposition so that we can just get moving forward. I can’t wait to see where Caspar and Eva go from here. What even are these secrets?
