Let's Talk About SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #2
Something is Killing the Children #2 is out now from BOOM! Studios, and it is ramping up the crazy. The story is written by James Tynion IV with art from Werther Dell’Edera, and this is going to be a good one. If you don’t want to read spoilers, stop reading now.
This issue of Something Is Killing the Children starts off kind of slow, but by the end, I was going, “what the heck!?” We start off meeting Tommy a little bit who appears to be the manager of a local diner. We find out his sister is missing and my heart goes out to the guy. Then, we see some kind of monster that I can only assume is invisible in front of Tommy’s car and now I’m thinking the poor guy’s possessed or something. Also, anyone else notice how the monster looks a bit like the monster from Fern Gully?
Well, we then cut to Erica and James at Tommy’s diner. Erica wants to set it up as a base camp seemingly which is not a bad idea, but I figured her hotel room would’ve made more sense. There’s a confrontation and Tommy calls the Sheriff’s office to report suspicious activity. This probably helps explain when the Sheriff shows up at Erica’s hotel.
Just before the Sheriff shows up though, we see Erica talking to a very creepy looking...doll? It looks terrifying. What’s worse is that the doll answers her when she talks to it. What the heck!? Once the Sheriff arrives and goes to talk to Erica, she’s pretty calm about everything, but when she opens the door, we can see (not sure if the Sheriff sees) a transparent orange alien(?) where the doll is. Combine that with the owner of the hotel talking about hearing voices from Erica’s room and I’m creeped out.
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure what I want from this series other than for all of the kids to be ok. I don’t really know where the story is going to go from here. Not because it’s hit a wall, but because there are so many ways it could go. What do you think is going on with Erica and this alien? Is Tommy possessed by that monster? I cannot wait for Something is Killing the Children #3.
