Let's Talk About SPY X FAMILY Vol. 4

Spy x Family volume 4 dropped early this month and VIZ Media was kind enough to send me a copy to read. I am loving this manga and this volume just adds to my love. The story and art come from Tatsuya Endo and I highly recommend you check it out. You can purchase your copy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, comiXology (affiliate link), and more. Some spoilers are ahead.

The Forgers look into adding a dog to their family, but this is no easy task—especially when Twilight has to simultaneously foil an assassination plot against a foreign minister! The perpetrators plan to use trained dogs for the attack, but Twilight gets some unexpected help to stop these terrorists.

Loid takes the family to a facility run by his agency to get a dog. Only problem is that the dogs are all scary to Anya and she doesn’t like them. Lor then takes her over to an animal shelter event as Loid fakes bowel problems so that he can find out about an assassination plot. A lot happens, but Anya sneaks off and finds a dog that the terrorists are going to use and forms a bond with it. This gets her in trouble with the terrorists and Lor has to find Anya and then even helps bring down some of the bad guys.

Something that proves interesting is that the dog (eventually named Bond) turns out to be able to see the future a little. It shows Anya a look at her family, but Twilight is dead and Anya finds out there’s a bomb that could easily kill Twilight who is hunting the terrorist leader. She ends up warning Twilight and the vision from Bond is shown again with Twilight restored.

Anya is a little miffed that the events of the day have to be a secret to preserve piece because that means she can’t get a Strella Star for her efforts. She does try to get closer to Damian Desmond since she has a dog now, but that doesn’t quite pan out, but it’s cute.

The extra stories included in the volume are really fun. I especially like the one where Anya is showing her new Penguin toy around the house and treating him like a spy. She gets into a little trouble trying to go into her parent’s room, but Twilight’s response is not exactly the best and to get Anya to calm down, he and Lor pretend to be more of her toys pretending to be spies and it’s cute. I’m loving this manga.
