Let's Talk About THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Episode 2 and Some of Those Cool Easter Eggs

The second episode of The Book of Boba Fett, titled "The Tribes of Tatooine,” was a lot of fun! I enjoyed this chapter of the story as it continued to offer a backstory for Boba Fett and his time spent with the Tusken Raiders. It also progressed his present story as he continues on his journey to take control of the criminal underworld.

The majority of the episode was set during Boba's time earning the trust and respect of the Tusken Raider, which he does by leading a battle against a trailer run by the Pyke Syndicate, which is a crime group previously seen in The Clone Wars and Solo.

This is a pretty epic action sequence that ends with Boba sparing the lives of the Pykes even though they were transporting the narcotic spice. Boba tells them they must pay a toll to the Tuskens for passing through their territory, and in return they will get their protection.

The Tuskens end up embracing Boba after the train battle, and they end up putting a weird little lizard in his head and then sending him off on an intense quest to get the tree branch that'll be forged into his gaffi stick, which is the Tusken melee weapon. When he completes his journey, they also give him their black robes.

Boba also was completely tripping out on his little quest to the tree. At one point he sees himself being consumed by the Sarlacc. Then there’s a flashback of his childhood on Kamino and picking up his late father Jango Fett's helmet on Geonosis.

This all ends with a Tusken ceremonial dance, which seems like it is inspired by Temuera Morrison's Māori heritage.

As for the present-day story, Boba learns that Jabba the Hutt’s cousins the Twins, one male and one female, want to take over the late Hutt's territory. Boba refuses to give up his claim, though, and tells them they'll have to kill him. The female Hutt advises her brother that attempting to kill Boba in a busy Mos Espa street wouldn't be a smart thing to do and the male Hutt threateningly says, "Sleep lightly, bounty hunter.”

Also during this scene, a badass Wookie enforcer is introduced. He works for the Hutt twins, and while he isn’t named in the episode, this very well could be Black Krrsantan, a character from the comic who might be making his live-action debut in the series.

Boba's reference to "gladiators" hints at Krrsantan's past. In case you don’t know, after leaving his home planet Kashyyyk, he was forced to battle as a gladiator. When he escaped that life, he became a bounty hunter, working for such charming employers as Jabba and Darth Vader. 

You also might be interested in knowing that the Wookie Krrsantan also had a run-in with Obi-Wan Kenobi during his exile on Tatooine. At one point, Obi-Wan had to rescue Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen from him. I hope that we haven’t seen the last of this character! I would love to see him and Boba Fett throw down.

Then there was a wicked fun Easter Egg revealed that I thought was cool. At one point a couple of goons from the swoop gang are hassling a pair of human bar patrons, and those characters are Camie Marstrap and Laze "Fixer" Loneozner. They were featured in a deleted scene from the original Star Wars film A New Hope. That was their only appearance and then here they show up in The Book of Boba Fett all these years later.

Just in case you don’t know or need a reminder, Camie and Fixer were both friends of Luke Skywalker when he was growing up on Tatooine. The deleted scene was set at Tosche Station, which was a repair station run by Fixer. Lukes visits his friends there, including Wedge, and at one point in the deleted scene, Camie refers to Luke as "Wormie.” I included that deleted scene below for you to watch.

I love that Fixer and Camie are still hanging out at Tosche Station over a decade later. The characters are now played by Skyler Bible and Mandy Kowalski, and I can’t help but wonder if they’re still selling power converters.

In the novelization of The Last Jedi by Jason Fry, the exiled Luke dreams of what his life might have been like if he would have never left Tatooine. In that dream, he’s married to Camie, so it seems like maybe he had a little crush on her at some point.
