Let's Talk About THE MANDALORIAN Chapter 10: "The Passenger" which was Great if You're Scared of Spiders
Every time I watch a new episode of The Mandalorian, I’m just reminded of how much I love this show! The way that they play with the characters of Mando and The Child in these stories are just so damn fun and I couldn’t be happier with how the most recent episode played out.
In The Mandalorian Chapter 10 - “The Passenger”, Mando and The Child continue their journey to find other Mandalorian to help them on their journey to returning The Child to the Jedi. The episode picks up right where the last one left off.
Mando is racing through the Tatooine desert on his Speeder Bike when he is ambushed by a group of outlaws that take him and his Speeder Bike down. It’s ok, though, because Mando easily takes them out. There’s a great little gag where he lets one of the outlaws take his jet pack and as the outlaw is walking away Mando remotely launches the jet pack into the sky taking the outlaw with it and he ends up dropping out of the sky.
Mando has to walk back to Mos Eisley carrying all of his stuff and once there, he is taken to an alien woman who is looking for safe passage to another system to transport her eggs, which we learn are the last of her kind. There’s evidence that there are Mandalorian in the system where she is looking to go, so Mando agrees to take her.
There’s a little problem, though, Mando can’t jump to hyperspace in his Razor Crest because doing so would destroy her unfertilized eggs. So, he’s forced to travel at sublight speeds, which means there are more chances of getting in some trouble, which is exactly what happens.
On their journey, Mando ends up in the sights of a New Republic patrol. One of the pilots of the X-Wings was played by Dave Filoni, who previously appeared in the series. He appeared in the Mandalorian's sixth episode playing the character Trapper Wolf, a fighter pilot for the New Republic that sprung up following the defeat of the Empire.
The other X-Wing pilot was played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, a Korean-Canadian actor best known for the soap Train 48.
Anyway, after trying and failing to get the information they need from Mando, Mando makes a run for it and the X-Wing pilots chase him to the surface of an ice planet, where the Razor Crest crash lands, significantly damaging the Razor Crest.
I should mention that during this journey, The Child keeps sneaking and eating the poor alien woman’s eggs! The ones she is trying to protect because they are the last of her kind! He just can’t stop! It’s an ongoing gag, but luckily she never really seems to notice that some of her eggs keep disappearing.
Things take a turn for the worse when Mando, The Child, and the alien woman, find themselves battling a horde of gross creepy alien spiders that are trying to kill them. One of them is massive-sized and they have to defend the ship and find a way to survive.
This is definitely a great episode if you’re scared of icky creepy spiders! The designs of these spiders were actually pulled from some unused key art that Ralph McQuarrie created for The Empire Strikes Back.
Luckily the two X-Wing pilots from the chase earlier came to Mando’s rescue, because things were not looking good for them. But, after a patch-up job on the ship, Mando, The Child, and the passenger are back on their way through the galaxy.
The Passenger was directed by Ant-Man director Peyton Reed and he did a great job with it. He also included an alien Ant-type character in the episode, which was a fun little nod to Ant-Man. I enjoyed this episode and I can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes the characters next!
