Let's Talk About the PARKS AND RECREATION SPECIAL Which You Can Watch Online Now

It has been five years since the series finale of Parks and Recreation, but this evening (April 30th), we got a special streamed episode to help promote donations for people suffering through our current crisis. It is a quick and quirky episode, but shows that creativity and fun can still blossom in times like these.

If you haven’t seen it yet you can watch right now on YouTube:

The episode is set right now in the midst of the COVID-19 quarantines and everyone is calling each other for their regular updates. And when I say everyone, I mean just about everyone notable from the show. From Johnny Karate to Paul Rudd and a quick episode of “Ya Heard? With Perd” to a Dennis Feinstein commercial, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many series regulars appear along with the main cast. It was also well enough written to have people like Andy and April be on separate calls because Chris Pratt and Aubrey Plaza obviously don’t live in the same house.

I don’t want to spoil anything, not that there is much of a plot to spoil anyways, but the jokes were all pretty good, and the general interactions felt just like an episode from Season 4 or 5. I was a little disappointed that there was no major plot that ran from beginning to end of the episode, but that is reasonable given the circumstances, resources, and number of people included.

In actual comparison to other past episodes, it is fine. It won’t be added to anyone’s Top Ten list or be heavily analyzed for comedic intellect, it is just nice to see the cast come together for a fun little episode and do it for a good cause. I will say though, Gary might have the funniest line in the whole episode and maybe even series, it’s quick, but leave a comment if you hear it. Overall, the episode was a great success and brought a lot of fun, joy, positive vibes, and mental/physical health tips and encouragement without being over zealous or too cheesy.
