Let's Talk About WE ONLY FIND THEM WHEN THEY'RE DEAD #1

The first issue of We Only Find Them When They’re Dead is officially out. The comic comes from Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo and I’m officially into it. It has a lot of similar vibes to Outlaw Star which I think is an underrated anime and I love it. If you haven’t had the chance to read it yet, this is your spoiler warning. You can grab a copy from your local comic shop or get a digital copy through outlets like comiXology.

Here’s what I’ve gathered so far. There are giant creatures that are called gods. These creatures are for the most part dead and humans have only found them dead. They go through and mine these gods for minerals, metals, and even meat. It sounds like the world is not a great place with a lot of people suffering from economic difficulties. I can’t imagine that at all (please note the sarcasm).

Well, Captain Georges Malik has got a four-person crew for the Vihaan II including himself and they’re planning something. They’re doing their best to go unnoticed, choosing less choice parts of the god to harvest and playing nice. However, Officer Paula Richter doesn’t like Malik. Apparently, she even killed his parents. I can only imagine the relationship these two have after that bombshell was dropped.

It should be noted that Malik is very careful about what is said aboard the ship, saying the ship has ears. I’m sure in this world, government officials and officers can easily tap into the ship’s comm systems to overhear what’s being said and that’s the problem. However, apparently in hyperspace, that’s not a problem. That’s when we learn that Malik wants to take his crew to find a live god. Now, I don’t know much about this world, but I imagine that is a very bold move. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
