Let's Talk About WE ONLY FIND THEM WHEN THEY'RE DEAD #4
BOOM! Studios has released We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #4 from the team of writer Al Ewing, artist Simone Di Meo, colorist Mariasara Miotti, and letterer AndWorld Design. I’ve really enjoyed this series so far and this issue feels a little slower and even gets a little confusing at the start, but it does feel important. You can get physical copies through your local comic shop or digital copies through comiXology (affiliate link), Google Play, iBooks, and Madefire.
The final showdown between Malik and Richter has begun on the surface of the God they've discovered. But will Malik survive long enough to find a living God – or has he doomed his crew to an unimaginable fate?
I’ll admit, I had to read the first three pages a few times to even get a hint of understanding what was going on. I’m still not sure that I fully understand what the heck is happening, but I think I’m on the up and up. After the confusing pages, the crew of the Vihaan II eventually find Alice’s body floating in space after Paula shot her. Alice is dead, by the way. Malik then goes out to grab her and leaves Jason in charge. Jason isn’t too happy about this, but is going to try to do what he can while his sister Ella protests and says they just need to get out.
Well, Malik grabs Alice’s body and starts carrying her towards the live god that they found knowing that Paula won’t kill him unless she can see his face. This pisses Paula off and she goes after him in her ship. We do learn why she hates him so much. He asked to trade shifts with his brother Thierry and it was on that shift that the Vihaan was destroyed and Thierry died. It appears that Paula was Thierry’s lover. There’s a bit of a yelling match and Ella and Jason try attacking Paula with the Vihaan II’s knife. They appear to hit her, but they also hit the god and kill it. The issue does end in a very suspenseful moment as Paula is right in front of Malik with her gun drawn on him. I am excited to see what happens next time.
