Let's Talk About ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE Which is an Engaging and Enjoyable Movie
Zack Snyder’s Justice League hit HBO Max last week and I finally was able to find four hours out of my day to sit down and watch it. I wanted to watch the film in one sitting to be able to take it all in. Regardless of what you think about Snyder’s DC films, it’s pretty cool and incredible that Warner Bros. gave him the opportunity to realize his full vision for the film. Well, his movie is finally here for audiences to experience!
Snyder had an epic plan for the DCEU and it had a solid start with Man of Steel. That was followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which had some great moments, ideas, and action sequences, but I personally didn’t like how the story played out. I thought it was an ok film.
With this new cut of Justice League, we get to really see how epic Snyder wanted to take this franchise, and I actually really enjoyed it. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-hour Justice League movie, but it was definitely superior to the version of the film that Warner Bros. initially delivered.
I do have to say that I’ve always dug Snyder’s visual filmmaking style. The movie is beautifully shot and while it’s filled with some stunning action sequences, there are also these wonderfully moving moments throughout the movie that capture the essence of the characters and the story.
That’s one of the things that I liked most about the movie, that Snyder was able to really dive into the characters and develop them properly. Snyder manages to show us the souls of the Justice League heroes and gives us a better sense of their personalities, which I appreciated.
It’s not a perfect film as there are some things that didn’t quite make sense to me, and several scenes that could have easily been cut out or cut down. I won’t get nitpicky and start listing off everything, but I will give an example. The scene where Superman meets Alfred is kind of a pointless scene. He’s Superman! With all of his powers, like super hearing, he really didn’t need to go to Alfred to find out where the team was at. I thought the scene also hurt the pacing of that epic final fight scene. It would have been cooler and made more sense to see Superman just fly right into the battle.
While the film could have definitely been tightened up, and there was some dialogue and attempted humor in certain scenes that didn’t quite work, it was enjoyable to watch. Sure, the movie was long and imperfect, but it sure was filled with a lot of awesomeness, and overall it’s a much more cohesive and engaging movie. So I’m happy with the end result. If Snyder was able to ever continue what he started, I’d watch the sequels.
