Lev Grossman's THE MAGICIANS Will Continue in a New Comic Series from BOOM! Studios

The Magicians is a fantasy novel series written by Lev Grossman. Now, Grossman is returning to the same world, but with new characters and he has partnered with BOOM! Studios to bring it in comic form. Lilah Sturges will be writing the comics with Pius Bak providing the art. This new series will not focus on Quentin, Alice, and their friends, but rather the next generation of heroes and villains, including some hedge magicians.

Long after Quentin and his friends have graduated from Brakebills, Dean Fogg welcomes a historic new group of students to the school – the first ever class of hedge magicians, rogue practitioners of unsanctioned magic, invited to enroll at Brakebills. But the traditional magicians aren’t too thrilled to have the rule-breaking outcasts in their hallowed halls, and tempers flare as the student bodies clash to prove their superiority – not realizing a new danger has emerged to threaten them all. The malevolence behind the threat at Brakebills will rock everyone to their cores – and even shock longtime fans of The Magicians!

This could be pretty interesting and sounds like a must for fans of the original series to at least try. Given BOOM!’s track record though, this is going to be a phenomenal series. The Magicians will run for five issues with the first one releasing in November 2019. The cover art is done by Qistina Khalidah with a tarot card variant from Alexa Sharpe. Grossman said the following in the press release about working on this new project:

The Magicians universe is deep and rich and there are so many places and stories that the books just never got to. Lilah and Pius are going to take us there — with me kibitzing over their shoulders — and it’s going to be incredible.
