LEVIATHAN WILDS is a SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS-Inspired Board Game from Ex-Fantasy Flight and Z-Man Games Designer
Justin Kemppainen (Star Wars: Imperial Assault) has worked as a designer and manager at Fantasy Flight Games and Z-Man Games. Recently, he started up a new tabletop game development studio with two of his colleagues called Moon Crab Games.
The team recently launched their first Kickstarter game called Leviathan Wilds which they say has some inspiration from the classic PS2 video game Shadow of the Colossus. The game will be a cooperative tactical board game that supports 1-4 players. The players will have to climb gigantic creatures and cure them of some “mysterious madness-inducing ailment.” Yeah, that Shadow of the Colossus inspiration checks out.
Long ago, the once-gentle leviathans lost their minds and tore the world apart. After generations of hiding and struggle, humanity discovered that the frenzied leviathans can be restored. Climbers willing to take the risk must explore the wilds and work together to heal the leviathans roaming the world.
Leviathan Wilds was developed publicly with Tabletop Simulator so that fans could provide feedback easier through their growing Discord community. Inside, you’ll find a spiral-bound book that contains 20 challenging scenarios. Each scenario offers unique gameplay, a unique illustration, and a unique map. Key aspects of gameplay include climbing, gravity, multi-use cards, character deck customization, and an optional light narrative campaign. Talking about bringing the game to life with Moon Crab Games, Kemppainen said:
After 10 years of making other people's games, it’s thrilling but mostly terrifying to take this leap: to build a tabletop game from scratch using such lofty inspirations, and then asking people very directly, 'Is this cool?
