Liam Neeson Is Open to Reprise His Role as Qui-Gon Jinn in Lucasfilm's OBI-WAN KENOBI Series

Some Star Wars fans would love to see Liam Neeson reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in the Star Wars franchise. If this were to happen, it seems like Lucasfilm’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series would be the perfect place for him to return as a force ghost.

During a recent interview with Collider, the actor was asked if he would be willing to return as Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and he responded with, “Sure, I’d be up for that, yeah.”

He may be a man of few words, but those are the only words that Star Wars fans need to hear. Neeson previously talked about the possibility of playing the character again and if he’s been approached, saying:

"I’ve done the voice for Qui-Gon Jinn in a couple of the animated versions of it. I can’t remember the names of them. Myself and Sam Jackson did our Jedi knights for those. I think I did two of them. But on film, I haven’t been approached, no. I haven’t really been following them, to be honest. I don’t know if they’ve come to an end. I heard they did a film of Harrison [Ford]’s character, Han Solo, and that there was a bit of trouble with that. What do you think? Are Star Wars fans finished with it?”

I think it’d be cool to see Neeson return as Qui-Gon Jinn in the Obi-Wan series. In the Star Wars anthology book From A Certain Point of View, we learn some details about Qui-Gon Jinn's force ghost. It’s in the story “Master and Apprentice” that we learn Qui-Gon visits his former apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi while he is hiding out on the desert planet of Tatooine.

The story is set right after Luke Skywalker leaves Obi-Wan in a rush to check on his aunt and uncle because he fears for their safety. You can read the details of how that scene plays out here. But, the fact that we know Qui-Gon is in contact with Obi-Wan means it would make sense to see him appear at some point in the series.

Production on the series is set to begin this year, with Ewan McGregor reprising his role of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen set to reprise his role as Darth Vader. Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul, American Gods, The Mandalorian) will direct the series, as well as serve as showrunner, with Hossein Amini (Drive, McMafia) and Joby Harold (Awake, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) writing.
