Liam Neeson Shares How Qui-Gon Jinn's Return Was Pitched to Him for OBI-WAN KENOBI

Star Wars fans were all hoping to see Liam Neeson reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it came at the very end in a very anti-climatic throwaway way. It was the waste of a great opportunity.

A new documentary was released on Disney+ titled Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi's Return, and in it, Neeson revealed how series director Deborah Chow pitched him the return of Qui-Gon. He explained:

"I spoke to Deborah a number of months ago, and she told me that Ewan [McGregor] was going to do this series. And Deborah [said] 'Just something towards the end, where Obi-Wan has gone through some journey and he's reaching out for help – and you're not there.' That's Qui-Gon Jinn. 'And then, he sees you.' And I thought, 'Yeah, I'm on board. I'm definitely on board with that.'" 

Neeson went in to reflect on the experience saying:

"It was at once very familiar, and at the same time I kept thinking, 'Wait a minute, it's 24 years since we made The Phantom Menace. But here we were with all brand new crew, Deborah, this wonderful director. It was lovely to see Ewan. And so the myth and the storytelling goes on."

It’s awesome that Neeson was open to reprising his role in the series. I just think there was a much better way to handle his return. It's not until the last moments of the series finale that he finally appears to Obi-Wan as a Force ghost, and the way it was all handled, including the series as a whole, was just disappointing, especially for such big characters.
