Lin-Manuel Miranda In Talks With Disney To Develop an Animated Film That Focuses on a Latina Princess
As you know, Disney is on a journey of bringing more diversity to their film projects. As far as animation goes, they’ve introduced an African-American princess with The Princess and the Frog and more recently introduced a Polynesian princess with Moana.
Now, it looks like they are looking to develop a new animated film that introduces a Latina princess and Lin-Manuel Miranda is in talks to develop it. Miranda most recently appeared in Mary Poppins Returns, but it was his popularity with the Broadway musical Hamilton that launched him into the spotlight.
The news comes from Page Six who says:
“He is talking to Disney about a sequel to ‘Moana,’ but the movie would be about a Latina princess.”
There’s no other information beyond that, but a film like this could end up being so many different things. With Miranda on board to develop the story and music, though, there’s no doubt that it will end up being something great that the kids will love.
It’s actually kind of surprising that there isn’t a Latina Disney princess yet! But, that looks like it’s going to change.
