Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hip-Hop Improv Group Chronicled in New Doc at Hulu Titled WE ARE FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME

Before the days of In The Heights and Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda was one of the founding members of the hip-hop improv group Freestyle Love Supreme, which he co-created along with Christopher Jackson and director Thomas Kail. The group performed on New York City streets before the members had other projects that launched them to fame, and enjoyed a sold out Broadway run last year.

Now the documentary We Are Freestyle Love Supreme, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, is coming to Hulu to tide us over while we wait for the film versions of In The Heights and Hamilton to hit the big screen next year.

Another founding member of FLS, Anthony Veneziale (a.k.a. Two-Touch) told Rolling Stone last year: “It’s this concept of jazz and the concept of riffing. In some ways, we are using the English language as our instruments and we just happen to be playing that instrument with our voices as opposed to the trumpet or the saxophone.”

This sounds really interesting, and I’m excited to watch it. Check out the tweet from Hulu below, and watch the documentary on June 5th.
