Lindsay Lohan "Very Hurt and Disappointed" by Joke in New MEAN GIRLS Musical Movie
The Broadway Musical adaptation of the fan-favorite 2004 film Mean Girls hit theaters this past weekend, and fans of the original have been enjoying it. One of the best surprises in the new musical was the cameo appearance of original star Lindsay Lohan, who played the Mathletes Moderator. She did a great job, and even had a fun line regarding a nod to the first film, but it turns out that when Lohan saw the film at its premiere, she was surprised by an upsetting joke that she hadn’t known was included in the script.
The joke she’s referring to uses the term “fire crotch,” which was infamously associated with Lohan after socialite Brandon Davis made crude comments about the actor’s body in a 2006 viral video.
“Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film,” the star’s representative Leslie Sloane told The Messenger.
In the new Mean Girls, Megan Thee Stallion (playing herself) shows support for Cady (Lohan’s original character, now played by Angourie Rice) by saying, “We are going back red. Y2K fire crotch is back!” Lohan took the joke as a distasteful reference to the derogatory nickname that haunted her in the mid-aughts. In the expletive-filled video, captured by TMZ, Davis goes off about Lohan while his friend, Paris Hilton, cracks up laughing in the background. At the time, Hilton’s rep attempted to distance her from the tabloid scandal.
It sounds like this was an oversight, and not meant to hurt Lohan’s feelings, but it’s too bad that it happened. Variety has reached out to Mean Girls writer Tina Fey and studio Paramount Pictures for comment, but haven’t heard back yet.
The new Mean Girls movie is playing in theaters now.
