Lionsgate Reteaming With Director Roland Emmerich for His Next Film MOONFALL
Lionsgate Studios is just coming off a successful opening weekend for the WWII film Midway, from the director Roland Emmerich, writer and director of films like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. His next film, which he co-wrote and also directed, is entitled Moonfall, and Lionsgate has just bought the rights to it as well.
Moonfall follows the story of a space crew who travels to the moon after it is struck by an asteroid and is sent on a collision course with Earth. Deadline provides the full synopsis:
The plot is about a mysterious force that knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact, and against all odds, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love and risking everything to land on the lunar surface and save our planet from annihilation.
We don’t have any casting news yet, but the film is set to shoot in 2020 and is rumored to go to Cannes Film Festival when it is completed. Are you intrigued by this story?
