Lionsgate To Adapt The Classic Children's Book STREGA NONA as a Feature Film

Fans of children’s literature will be happy to hear that Lionsgate has bought the rights to the classic children’s book Strega Nona for a feature adaptation. The 1975 classic by Tomie dePaola will be made by Hardy Howl Films, who made the animated feature Hoodwinked, and will be made by writer/directors Todd Edwards, Timothy Hooten and writer/producer Katie Hooten.

Here’s the book’s synopsis, courtesy of Deadline:

Strega Nona—Grandma Witch—is the source for potions, cures, magic, and comfort in her Calabrian town. Her magical ever-full pasta pot is especially intriguing to hungry Big Anthony, who is employed to look after her house and tend her garden. One day, when Strega Nona goes over the mountain to visit Strega Amelia, Big Anthony recites the magic verse over the pasta pot, with disastrous results.

This will be a fun story to see adapted for the big screen. I know my kids will enjoy it. Have you read the book before? Are you excited for this one?
