Lionsgate to Spend Millions on CHAOS WALKING Reshoots as Current Movie Is "Unreleasable"

Chaos Walking is a film project that’s been trying to happen for quite some time now. The movie is based on the young adult book trilogy of the same name and has been in development since 2011. In 2016, the project got new life when director Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) came on board, with Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) starring. The movie was set to come out March 1st (last month), but obviously that didn’t happen.

According to reports, Lionsgate took a look at the film and deemed it “unreleasable”. So now Lionsgate is looking to pour millions of dollars into the movie to do three weeks worth of reshoots to make the movie work, and that’s after already having spent $100 Million! That’s pretty harsh. And pretty bizarre considering the talent on board.

Although, there have been rumors of Liman being a little difficult to work with. He was once quoted saying that he likes to “discover his movie while he’s making them.” Whatever that means. Maybe he just has a very loose approach, which may work on other movies, and obviously he has made some huge hits, but maybe that style doesn’t work with every film.

Here’s a synopsis for the film:

The story takes place in the future, on a distant planet called the New World which has been colonized by humans. Something called “the germ” has seemingly wiped out all of the women on the planet, and an infection called the Noise has totally eliminated privacy: the men and boys can hear what everyone else is thinking at all times. A young man named Todd Hewitt (Holland) stumbles across the first girl he’s ever seen (Ridley), and eventually realizes that he may be the only one able to stop the planet’s destruction.

All we can hope is that the reshoots have the effect they need on the movie, and we get a cool film out of the talented cast and crew. Chaos Walking is now set to release sometime in 2020. Are you a fan of the book series? What do you hope to see from this film?
