Listen To Directors Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson Discuss THE FABELMANS
If you didn’t get a chance to watch Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans this past weekend, I hope you do get the opportunity to watch it soon. It’s such a beautifully made film. If you have seen it, I’ve got something here that you’ve got to listen to!
The Directors Guild of America has shared a wonderful conversation between director Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson that took place at their Los Angeles theater on November 7th. In that conversation, they discuss The Fabelmans.
Spielberg discusses the development of the script with Tony Kushner, the process of directing Gabriel LaBelle to play a version of himself, and the feeling of rediscovering his family through his camera.
They talk about why Spielberg couldn’t make the film until his parents passed away, discovering his mom’s infidelity, and how he constructed the wonderful “Zapruder”-esque sequence in the film. Anderson praises Michelle Williams, calling her “one of the best actresses out there right now” as well as Paul Dano, why the film is like a $40 million therapy session for Spielberg, and more.
It’s a great conversation worth listening to! You can check it out below.
