Listen to Emperor Palpatine’s Mysterious Broadcast Mentioned in the Opening Crawl of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
The opening crawl of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker begins with “The Dead Speak!” and then reveals that there’s a transmission/broadcast sent out by Emperor Palpatine threatening revenge. While this is mentioned at one point by Poe Dameron in the film while talking to the Resistance fighters, we never hear the broadcast! We never learn what it is that Palpatine sent out.
Well, that transmission has actually been revealed, and it popped up in the Fornite video game of all places. This broadcast was actually revealed before the movie was actually released, but unless you saw the movie, you’d really have no idea how it tied into the story for the film.
The dialogue you hear in the video clip below was recorded by Palpatine actor Ian McDiarmid. At one point, director J.J. Abrams did intend to include this broadcast in the movie, but he couldn’t figure out the right place in the story to fit it in, so he decided not to include it at all.
It kind of bugs me that something that should have some significance in the movie was discarded and thrown into this Fortnite video game. I guess it must not have been that important to Abrams. This is what Palpatine says:
“At last the work of generations is complete. The great error is corrected. The day of victory is at hand. The Day of revenge. The day of the Sith!”
Listen to the broadcast below and tell us what you think.
