Live-Action ASTRO BOY Headed to the Big Screen
Looks like Astro Boy is going to get another big screen adaptation, only this time it's going to be a live-action version. I'm kind of surprised that this movie is happening, especially since the 2009 animated movie pretty much bombed at the box office. I'm not sure if the market has gotten any better or bigger for Astro Boy since then.
The movie is being developed by Australia’s Animal Logic Entertainment and Japan’s Tezuka Productions. Animal Logic is mostly known for the special effects work they've done. Some of the projects that they've worked on include Happy Feet, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The LEGO Movie, The Matrix, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. They also started developing a Betty Boop feature back in 2007.
Astro Boy was created by Osamu Tezuka in 1952, and it tells the story of a young robot built by a scientist to replace his recently deceased son. After being abandoned, Astro is raised by another scientist where he’s given upgrades that allow him to fight crime.
No director is attached to the project yet, but the producers are already out the hunt for a writer to take it on. Judging by how well the last feature film did at the box office, I don't think this one will do much better.
