Live-Action CASPER Horror Adventure Series in Development at Peacock

Peacock is producing a live-action series adaptation of Casper the Friendly Ghost. This latest vision of the franchise is said to be reminiscent of Riverdale‘s darker interpretation of the Archie comics. The series is titled Casper and it’s described as a horror adventure series that will offer an origin story for the ghost, and it’s “a coming-of-age story that explores what it means to be alive.”

The story is set in high school, “when a new family arrives in the small town of Eternal Falls, Casper finds himself entangled in a mystery uncovering dark secrets that have been buried for over 100 years.”

The series is being written and produced by The Ghost Bride head writer Kai Yu Wu and it’s being produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and DreamWorks Animation. The series is sure to utilize CGI effects to bring Casper to life.

I’m actually pretty curious to see what comes of this. I can see the potential in it and I feel like they are trying to do something different with the property. This could end up being a cool series if done right. I wonder what the ghost will end up looking like.

What do you think about the direction that this live-action Casper series is taking? Here’s to hoping they cast Devon Sawa as Casper!
