Live-Action GUNDAM Movie Goes Into Production and Bandai Namco Shares Teaser Poster

Bandai Namco has announced that they’ve started production on its live-action Gundam movie with Legendary Entertainment! They’ve also shared a teaser poster to stoke some excitement.

Legendary will be co-financing the film with Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. The movie is tentatively titled GUNDAM for now.

The movie is being written and directed by Jim Mickle, who previously worked on Netflix’s Sweet Tooth series. The film was originally set up at Netflix with Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong Skull: Island) directing, but neither of them are involved anymore.

Mobile Suit Gundam was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, and it’s a mecha anime series that debuted in 1979. Set in a futuristic era called the Universal Century, the story takes place during a brutal conflict between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, a space colony that seeks independence from Earth’s oppressive rule.

Zeon uses advanced mobile suits, humanoid combat machines piloted by soldiers, to gain the upper hand in the war. The story follows Amuro Ray, a young boy who finds himself piloting the Earth Federation’s prototype mobile suit, the RX-78-2 Gundam, after a Zeon attack on his colony.

But, the franchise has never had a live-action movie before now. While it's not currently clear what story the movie will be telling, there's so much source material to pull from.

I’m excited about this and I hope that the creative team behind it delivers something epic!
