Live-Action HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and Plan B/Orion's HEDDA Have Both Delayed Start of Production Due to Strikes
The live-action adaptation of Universal Pictures’ 2010 animated feature How To Train Your Dragon, was due to start filming in Belfast’s Titanic Studios this month, with a theatrical release slated for March 2025. But with the SAG/AFTRA strike ongoing, the studio has put the film’s plans on hold. The cast announced so far include Mason Thames and Nico Parker, while Dean DeBlois, who wrote the screenplays for the original animated trilogy, is making his directorial debut with the pic.
Another movie that is being placed on pause is writer/director Nia DaCosta’s Hedda, an adaptation of the Henrik Ibsen play from 1891, reimagined in an epic and emotional way in this production, Hedda Gabler. It was due to start filming in the UK later this summer, but has been pushed back. Produced by Orion Pictures, Plan B Entertainment and Viva Maude, Tessa Thompson co-stars with Callum Turner, Nicholas Pinnock, Eve Hewson and Nina Hoss.
This is added to the long list of productions that are on hiatus for now. Hopefully the strike is resolved soon and movies and shows get back to business.
