Live-Action PLAY-DOH Movie Being Developed with Paul Feig

With the success of The LEGO Movie, I guess it was only a matter of time before someone nabbed the feature film rights to Play-Doh. According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox is in talks to team up with Hasbro for a big screen Play-Doh adventure. They also report that Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is in talks to direct from a script written by Jason Micallef. Feig is currently developing the all-female Ghostbusters reboot for Sony Pictures.

I can’t really say that Play-Doh will make for a crappy movie, because I thought the same thing when I first heard that Warner Bros. was making a LEGO movie. Look how that one turned out! It seems like the studio is going after the right talent to develop the film, so maybe it will turn out to be something that we’ll all enjoy. Then it will get snubbed at the Oscars.

With a movie about Play-Doh, the story possibilities are endless. Anything can happen with the soft multi-colored clay. It’s just a matter of coming up with the right one to bring to life for audiences. I’m curious to see how this develops, but I imagine Melissa McCarthy will be involved. Maybe as some kind of Play-Doh master shaper.

I do have to say that one of the main things that The LEGO Movie had that Play-Doh won’t is all of the popular franchise characters.
