Live-Action RUGRATS Movie in Development with the Director of PITCH PERFECT
Nickelodeon’s classic 90s cartoon series Rugrats is getting a live-action CGI hybrid film adaptation, which Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore set to helm the project.
Rugrats was created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain, and it premiered in 1991. It followed the everyday adventures of a group of toddlers, primarily led by the curious and brave Tommy Pickles, his cautious best friend Chuckie Finster, the mischievous twins Phil and Lil DeVille, and the bossy, older cousin Angelica Pickles.
Through the imaginative perspectives of the babies, ordinary situations, like playing in the backyard or visiting the grocery store, transform into grand, often humorous, adventures filled with fantasy and exploration.
With its vibrant animation and distinct character personalities, Rugrats became a beloved staple of 1990s pop culture.
The show’s popularity led to three animated movies and it has gained new life as a new generation has begun to find the original episodes on streaming services.
Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day co-wrote the script with Streeter Seidell.
Moore most recently directed Shotgun Wedding, starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel, for Prime Video. He will direct two book adaptations: Guncle based on the acclaimed bestseller by Steven Rowley, as well as Emma Straub’s novel This Time Tomorrow.
This could end up being a really weird and wacky movie. Is anyone excited that Rugrats is getting a live action flick?
