LOKI Showrunner Says To "Expect The Unexpected" From The Upcoming Marvel Series
Like most Marvel fans, I’m excited about the upcoming shows that are currently in development that will be coming to Disney+, especially Loki! From what we know about the series, it sounds like it’s going to be a wild ride!
All we know about the series right now is that the show will follow the adventures of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after having escaped with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. We’ve learned that he will be traveling through different periods of time while affecting some important moments of history. Loki will be hunted down by the Time Variance Authority, who are basically time cops that patrol the timeline and take down criminals abusing the stream.
Showrunner Michael Waldron (Rick & Morty) continues to tease what we can expect from the series, saying that we “expect the unexpected.” On Twitter, he shared:
“We have a landing page on Disneyplus. And an old trailer. But I like the green nebula. It indicates that this is a science fiction (“sci-fi”) show. You know they say about “sci-fi”: Expect the unexpected when it comes to science fiction.”
So, that’s exciting! When previously talking about the show, Waldron explained that the story would focus on Loki struggling with his Identity:
"I think it's the struggle with identity, who you are, who you want to be. I'm really drawn to characters who are fighting for control. Certainly you see that with Loki over the first 10 years of movies, he's out of control at pivotal parts of his life, he was adopted and everything and that manifest itself through anger and spite towards his family."
The show will also tie in with the series WandaVision in some way as well as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Kate Herron will direct the series, while Michael Waldron is on board as head writer. The show will also feature Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Owen Wilson, Richard E. Grant, and Sophia Di Martino in undisclosed roles.
Loki will premiere on Disney+ in spring 2021.
