Looks Like WEST SIDE STORY Will Be Steven Spielberg's Next Movie
Last week we learned that Steven Spielberg was looking at two films for his next project to work on. Those film included Indiana Jones 5 and West Side Story. Well, it looks like he's moving forward with West Side Story!
According to Broadway World, Spielberg is already looking for actors to star in the film. This information comes from casting director Cindy Tolan, who is actively searching for actors to play the musical's four leading roles: Maria (18-20), Tony (18-23), Bernardo (20-24) and Anita (20-24 years). As you might expect, all four actors must be able to sing, and Maria, Anita and Bernardo must be able to speak Spanish. I like that they are looking for new talent to fill these roles.
It was also confirmed that Angels in America scribe Tony Kushner is currently working on a script. There are a lot of roles to fill in the movie. It's a pretty big ensemble cast, and I'm curious to see who Spielberg ultimately ends up casting in the roles.
West Side Story is one of my favorite musicals and I love the original film. I'm really interested in seeing how Spielberg will handle this new feature film adaptation. I'm looking forward to it, though! It's Spielberg, I'm sure he'll give us a great film. He'll get around to directing Indiana Jones 5 after this.
What do you think about Spielberg taking on West Side Story?
