LOST IN SPACE Remake Series Officially Ordered by Netflix

TV Lost in Space by Joey Paur

Last year we learned that Legendary TV was remaking the classic 1965 sci-fi series Lost in Space. Netflix came on board to produce the series, and now we've learned that the streaming service has ordered 10 episodes.

The new Lost In Space reboot is described as an “epic but grounded science fiction saga focusing on a young explorer family from earth lost in an alien universe and the challenges they face in staying together against seemingly insurmountable odds.”

Netflix has been putting out some high-quality shows, so there's a good chance that reboot could end up being a solid, well-made series. It's got all the elements of a great series, so hopefully, they don't screw it up.

The original 1965 series was set 30 years into the future (1997), and the story revolved around an attempt by the U.S. to colonize deep space by sending a single family, the Robinsons, on a 5 1/2-year journey to another planet. But a foreign secret agent, Dr. Zachary Smith, sabotaged the mission, causing the ship to veer off course and become lost in space. It ran for three seasons on CBS, and there are a total of 83 episodes.

Neil Marshall (The Descent) is producing the series and is also expected to direct. It is being written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who most recently worked on Dracula Untold.

Lost in Space is expected to premiere sometime in 2018.
