Louis Leterrier To Direct Netflix's BRIGHT 2 with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton

Netflix is getting ready to start developing Bright 2, the sequel to the 2017 fantasy action thriller. The story is set in a fictional Los Angeles filled with fairies, elves and magic wands. The first film followed two partners who reluctantly team up to protect a magical wand from law enforcement, criminals and an array of supernatural characters.

David Ayer was originally supposed to return to direct the sequel, but I guess things didn’t work out with that. He’s currently spending his time focused on developing the Dirty Dozen remake for Warner Bros. Netflix is now negotiating to bring on director Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Now You See Me) to helm the project.

Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are set to reprise their roles in the sequel, the script of which was written by Ayer and Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast). That script also got a rewrite from T.S. Nowlin. Ayer is still on board as a producer.

According to Deadline, the Bright sequel “picks up the travails of the odd partnership, but sets it on an international stage.”

I thought the first movie was pretty cool! I enjoyed it and it’ll be fun to return to this world with the upcoming sequel. I think Leterrier is a good fit for the material. What do you think?
