We have a new trailer for you to check out for the WWII story, Summerland. This is not your typical war story, as it’s set in wartime but is not focused on the actual participants on the front lines. The story follows a reclusive writer named Alice who is asked to take in a boy who is an evacuee in London. She is not particularly willing to do so, but eventually softens to the boy, revealing her backstory and true self.

The films stars Gemma Arterton (Orphan, Murder Mystery) as Alice, with Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle, The Morning Show), Lucas Bond (Slumber), Penelope Wilton (Shaun of the Dead, Downton Abbey), Amanda Root (The Robinsons), Siân Phillips (Dune), Dixie Egerickx (The Secret Garden), and Tom Courtenay (Doctor Zhivago, 45 Years), and is written and directed by Jessica Swale in her feature directorial debut.

Here’s the synopsis:

Alice (Gemma Arterton) is a reclusive writer, resigned to a solitary life on the seaside cliffs of Southern England while World War II rages across the channel. When she opens her front door one day to find she’s to adopt a young London evacuee named Frank, she’s resistant. It’s not long, however, before the two realize they have more in common in their pasts than Alice had assumed.
