Luca Guadagnino Says He Wishes He Could Have Directed an Andrew Garfield-Led SPIDER-MAN

Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino has worked with many of the most acclaimed young actors in Hollywood in films like Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All, and Challengers. But one project he wishes he could have made was a Spider-Man film starring The Amazing Spider-Man actor, Andrew Garfield.

At this week’s Marrakech Film Festival, attended by Variety, Garfield appeared on a panel hosted by Guadagnino, who followed Garfield’s remarks on starring in the super-hero franchise, saying he found Spider-Man to be a “fascinating superhero.”

“I remember when Sam Raimi directed his first one, and I was 28 or 29, I had these dreams because I’m kind of a megalomaniac, and I wished I had been asked to do one.

“So I wish I had directed you in Spider-Man,” Guadagnino said, looking at Garfield who was seating on his left. Guadagnino did just direct Garfield in the thriller After the Hunt, also starring Julia Roberts.

Guadagnino didn’t get to make that movie back then, but with the popularity of Garfield’s return to the franchise, maybe he will get his wish after all. While that ship probably has sailed, a guy can dream.

Would you like to see Andrew Garfield back as Spider-Man with Luca Guadagnino at the helm?
