Lucasfilm Casts Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller in the Cassian Andor ROGUE ONE Prequel Series

Stellan Skarsgard (Thor) and Kyle Soller (101 Dalmatian Street) have joined the cast of Lucasfilm’s upcoming live-action untitled Star Wars series. This show is Rogue One prequel that centers on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor character.

The story focuses on Rebel agent Andor prior to the events of Rogue One in the early days of the Rebellion against the Empire. The show had been described as a “spy thriller” when plans for it were first revealed last year. It was also previously announced Alan Tudyk will reprise his role as the droid K-2SO.

Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy is writing the pilot for the series in addition to directing multiple episodes. He will work alongside series showrunner Stephen Schiff.

There are no details given as to who Skarsgard or Soller will be playing. When previously talking about the series Luna said:

“The thing I can tell you, and it’s a nice challenge and it’s a great way to approach a show, but what happens when you already know the ending? Then it becomes about the story. Everything is in how you tell the story and how many different layers you can find. This can’t be a show now where at the end we surprise you with like, ‘Oh no it wasn’t him!’ We’ve already seen the ending.

“If you think about it, ‘Rogue One’ started with the same task. The last scene of ‘Rogue One’ is a scene we all know. It makes another part of your brain work [as a storyteller]. You can’t use the same formulas for storytelling you’ve known all your life with this because it’s very different. The big thing is now we start with a character that people already know what he’s capable of.”

While the character of Cassian Andor wasn’t really that interesting to some fans, I hope that this series delivers something just as good as The Mandalorian.
