Lucasfilm Hires Someone To Oversee All Live-Action STAR WARS Productions and She's Only Produced One Movie
I’ve got a bit of interesting Star Wars news to share with you today that is sure to make some fans uneasy about the future of the franchise. Lucasfilm has created a new position, which is the Senior VP of live action development and production. The person they hired in this position is Michelle Rejwan.
Rejwan will oversee all of the live-action feature films as well as the live-action productions in development for Disney+. She is the overlord of all live-action films and will also be a producer on the these projects alongside Kathleen Kennedy.
What’s interesting about this is that the person they hired has only been a real producer on one film and it hasn’t even been released yet. That film is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She was also a co-producer on The Last Jedi and before that an associate producer on Super 8. She got her start in the industry working as an assistant on Curb Your Enthusiasm. I also want to point out that a co-producer and associate producer is not the same as a top tier producer there are vast differences in duties. Regardless, it seems like she’s moved up through the ranks pretty fast at Lucasfilm!
Look, I don’t care if the person taking on this position is male or female, all I care about is if this person is qualified. To put this in perspective, Rejwan is now basically to Lucasfilm what Kevin Feige is to Marvel Studios. Kennedy seems to think she is the right person for the job and she had this to say in a statement:
"Working with Michelle over the last seven years as a producer on both The Force Awakens and now The Rise of Skywalker, I have seen first-hand her skills collaborating with writers and directors, and I've been incredibly impressed with her creative skills and her ability to manage the complexity surrounding these massive projects.”
I guess it doesn’t hurt being friends with Kennedy and J.J. Abrams, but she seems to have proved herself to Kennedy. They obviously like her and think that she can handle the work load. She must also be a very likable person. Kennedy goes on to say:
“I know the importance of building a team that you trust and have fun working with — it is paramount to our success. There's an exciting momentum building around the future of the franchise, and both myself and the Lucasfilm team look forward to working with Michelle in shaping the future in all areas of story development, from theatrical film development to live action content for Disney+.”
Maybe Rejwan will end up doing great things at Lucasfilm with the Star Wars franchise! It’s way too early to tell at this point. But I wish the best! I hope that she actually ends up doing great things and brings us some great Star Wars projects in the future.
What do you think about Michelle Rejwan being hired to be the overseer of all the live-action Star Wars productions?
