Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Rumored To Be Stepping Down From Her Position Later This Year
A rumor has surfaced from Ankler, which is a Hollywood insider, that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy will be stepping down from her position later this year. Ever since Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released a lot of Star Wars fans have said they wanted to see Kennedy step down. She makes one mistake in the eyes of a few fans and they hate her for it.
I personally think she's done a great job with the Star Wars franchise and for the most part, it's been a huge success for Disney and Lucasfilm. Solo: A Star Wars Story didn't perform as well at the box office as they would have hoped but it was still an awesome movie! I don't think that Kennedy needs to step down as President, I don't think she should, but this is what the report says:
"While Kathleen Kennedy worked wonders relaunching this property from the abyss of the Lucas prequel trilogy and turning it into a bigger than ever all-devouring cultural force, there has to be more than some thought that it's time for new blood at the helm. The talk out there is of a September changing of the guards. We'll see."
As of right now, this is just a rumor. A rumor that I hope doesn't end up being true. Kathleen Kennedy has an incredible track record of producing great films! She is a major asset at Lucasfilm and it would be a shame if Disney really does intent on replacing her. Also, she was hand-picked by George Lucas to take control of Lucasfilm. That was all part of the deal when he sold it to Disney. He wanted it to be in good hands and it has been in good hands!
This all comes in the wake of Kelly Marie Tran leaving social media after being bullied for months by people who claim to be Star Wars fans. Star Wars fans are getting more and more aggressive and it's becoming toxic. I hope that isn't the driving force behind Kennedy possibly looking to step down.
But, maybe after six years of being completely focused on Star Wars, it is possible that Kennedy is just ready to move on to a new venture, a new chapter in her career.
Since nothing is confirmed here, take this news with a giant grain of salt. What do you think, though? Do you think Kennedy will end up being replaced? Do you think she should? If so, who do you think should take her place?
