Lucasfilm Releases Official Statement Welcoming Ron Howard to the HAN SOLO Film

This morning is was announced that Ron Howard was officially hired to replace Phil Lord and Chris Miller as the director on the Han Solo Star Wars movie. For the most part, fans seem to be very happy with the choice. I know I am! Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has since released an official statement on StarWars.com welcoming Howard to the film project, saying:

"At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago. With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July."

Between now and July, Howard will be talking to the cast and crew and going over everything that's been shot so far so that he knows how to proceed with the production of the film when shooting resumes. He will be working closely with screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who has a vision for the character and film that just wasn't in line with what Lord and Miller were trying to do.

I'm a huge fan of Lord and Miller's previous work, and I was initially excited about what they would bring to the Han Solo film. Unfortunately, this just didn't fit with their filmmaking style.

The untitled Han Solo film is scheduled for release on May 25th, 2018.
