Lucasfilm's AHSOKA and SKELETON CREW Are Confirmed to Be Standalone STAR WARS Stories
There are two new Star Wars series coming that fans are pretty excited about seeing and those include Star Wars: Ahsoka and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Fans are eagerly anticipating what these new adventures will bring, and while the prospect of crossovers and character cameos is exciting, producer Jon Favreau has revealed that these series will be more focused on their titular characters rather than providing overlapping stories.
Set in the same time period as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, these new series are expected to offer a fresh perspective on the Star Wars universe. During a recent press event to promote The Mandalorian Season 3, Seif Zaki shared on Twitter: "Favreau just confirmed that Season 4 of The Mandalorian is written and they're looking at art from Doug Chiang. Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew are both in [post-production], set in the same time period and may have character crossovers, despite being standalone stories."
When asked for clarification on these remarks, Zaki replied: "The way he put it implied that they are all standalone stories in that you don't need to watch the others to like them but watching them all will deepen your appreciation. And the sets are all next to each other when filming plus the time period is the same."
So what can we expect from Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew? While details have been kept under wraps, Skeleton Crew has been described as ”a galactic version of classic Amblin coming of age adventure films of the ’80s.” The story will follow four young kids from a tiny little planet, and they end up getting lost in the Star Wars galaxy and embark on a journey to find their way back home. Jude Law is set to star in the series.
As for Ahsoka, the story follows Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) as they hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn in hopes that it will lead them to find the lost Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi who disappeared with Thrawn many years ago.
With both series set in the same time period as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, there are crossover opportunities. While they aren’t happening now, they could happen at some point in the future. Favreau previously said: "Each storyteller brings their own personality to it. The groups that are working on [Skeleton Crew] are led by Jon Watts, whom I collaborated with on all the Spider-Man movies. This has been a real fun time and the great filmmakers that he's engaged with have been bringing their perspectives as well."
With talented filmmakers like Jon Watts and Dave Filoni leading the charge on these shows, we're sure to be in for a treat. Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew are expected to premiere later this year on Disney+.
