Lucasfilm's BOBA FETT Movie is Dead as They Put Their Focus on THE MANDALORIAN

Lucasfilm has been developing a Boba Fett movie for a few years. Director Josh Trank was originally supposed to direct it, then he was let go after Fantastic Four came out. Then earlier this year Logan director James Mangold was brought on board.

Well, I’ve got some bad news for those of you Star Wars fans who were looking forward to this movie. It’s been shut down. The project is dead. The new was confirmed by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who explains they are 100% focused on Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian.

I can see how this move make sense. Yeah, it would have been cool to see Boba Fett get his own movie. But, I like that they are telling the story of a new Mandalorian bounty hunter character. I guess there’s always a chance that maybe Boba Fett could show up in the series, if they decide they want to bring him back to life.

Here’s the synopsis that was released for The Mandalorian:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Warsuniverse. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The series will be directed by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

The series will premiere on Disney’s upcoming streaming service next year. What do you think about Lucasfilm shutting down the Boba Fett film project?
