We really don’t know anything regarding the Star Wars trilogy projects being developed by Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. But a new rumor has surfaced regarding Benioff and Weiss’ project that is sure to get fans excited.

According to an inside source who reached out to Star Wars News, their film is going to be set during the time of The Old Republic:

“…approached about working on the next movie this Autumn. It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys’ first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more ‘Game of Thrones‘ style audience.”

Apparently the source provided proof they have worked on every Star Wars film since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm and claims they are “95% confident this is accurate.” So, with that being said you should take this news with a grain of salt.

The source goes on to offer some additional details saying that the story is set “hundreds of years prior to the Skywalkers, so think almost Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings.” I certainly like the sound of that! Who wouldn’t!?

As far as where production on the film currently stands, it’s said that the art departments are currently doing pre-production work, the script is being finalized, and that they are looking to start shooting in the Fall.

Even though we don’t know if this is 100% true, would you be a happy Star Wars fan if it does turn out to be true?
