Lucy Lawless Had Meetings About Joining The STAR WARS Universe Before Gina Carano Was Fired
After the release of Gina Carano from the role of Cara Dune in the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, fans took to the internet to fancast the part. One of the most popular choices was actress Lucy Lawless, who we all know as Xena: Warrior Princess from her ‘90s series.
But little do fans know, Lawless was actually in talks with the executives at Star Wars to join the universe before Carano was even in the hot seat. In a recent interview with Metro.co.uk (via Gizmodo), Lawless didn’t get into what her initial meetings with Star Wars heads were about, but she did talk about why she wasn’t put in as Cara Dune, per the fans’ request, saying:
“It would seem to be pandering to… I’m just guessing here, I don’t know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?”
So basically, she is saying that fans don’t call the shots. If, upon Carano leaving the series, the creators decided not to bring the character back, they aren’t just going to change their plans because fans said so. Not to say that actor and fan input hasn’t panned out in the past, but it’s not going to work in every situation.
So it doesn’t look like we will be seeing Lawless in the role of Cara Dune. What would you like to see happen in that aspect of The Mandalorian?
