Lucy Liu Taking on Lead Role in Feature ROSEMEAD Adapted From L.A. Times Article 'A Dying Mother's Plan'

Lucy Liu, best known for her roles in Kill Bill Vol. 1, Charlie’s Angels, and the series Elementary, has taken on the lead role in the upcoming fil, Rosemead. The story is based on the L.A. Times article “A Dying Mother’s Plan,” and is being directed by Eric Lin in his feature debut, from a script adapted by Marilyn Fu.

Based on a true story that took place in the San Gabriel Valley, the film follows an immigrant mother (Liu) with terminal cancer who takes desperate measures to help her unstable teenage son as she uncovers his growing obsession with mass shootings.

This is a very sensitive subject, compounded with the urgency of a dying mother. Liu had this to say of the project:

“This heartbreaking, true story shines a light on how important it is to understand all aspects of mental illness, especially in Asian societies. I’m excited to be working with Eric and Marilyn to tell a story within our shared culture, and to bring attention to the terrible stigma attached to this disease that can cause individuals and families to become ostracized in their own communities, or in this case, lose their lives.”

Lin added:

“It beautifully depicts how mental illness, and the shame of it, tests the fierce bonds of a Chinese immigrant family. I’m beyond excited to work with Lucy and to see her bring her fearless talent to a challenging role that we haven’t seen her take on yet.”

This sounds like it will be a poignant story to see unfold. I enjoy Liu as an actress, and I am confident that she will deliver a solid and heartfelt performance.
