Luke Evans Joins Director Roland Emmerich's Big WWII Action Film MIDWAY
Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast) is set to star alongside Mandy Moore and Woody Harrelson in Midway, the big-budget World War II action movie being directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day).
The film is an epic telling of the Battle of Midway, a turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II. The story follows the real soldiers and aviators who pulled off the unbelievable to turn the tide of the war in June 1942.
Harrelson is playing Admiral Chester Nimitz, "one of the leaders who lead the American naval fleet to victory in a foray that involved aircraft carriers, destroyers and cruisers." Evans will play Commander Wade McClusky, "who would go on to win a Naval Cross for his role in Midway."
So far the cast for the film is great, but it's hard to think that Emmerich will actually make a great World War II film. That bar has been set so high from directors such as Steven Spielberg, Mel Gibson, Christopher Nolan, and Clint Eastwood. But, I am interested to see what he will deliver.
I do hope that he gives us something awesome, but he hasn't really made a good movie since the 2000 film The Patriot and even that's up for debate.
