Luke Skywalker and Ben Solo Battle The Knights of Ren in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF KYLO REN #2

Marvel Comics has released a piece of cover art for Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren #2 and it features Luke Skywalker and Ben Solo fighting The Knights of Ren side by side! It’s a pretty badass visual that gives us a little insight into the relationship between Luke and Ben.

The comic comes from writer Charles Soule and the mini-series will tell the tragic story of how Ben Solo made the turn to the Dark Side. Here are a few bits of information that have been revealed about the upcoming issue:

  • With the new Jedi school in ruins and fellow students hot on his trail for the murder of their master, Ben Solo flees to the only friend he has left in the galaxy…a man named Snoke. But Snoke has plans for Ben…and ideas about the Force that are as dangerous as they are intriguing for the troubled young Jedi.

  • If Ben wishes to be truly free…the answers might lie with the Dark Side. And with the Knights of Ren!

  • But it won’t be the first time he’s tangled with the Knights. In the past, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker journeys to the Unknown Regions and brings young Ben along for the mission. Can even Luke Skywalker stand against the fabled Knights of Ren?!

I’ll be looking forward to seeing how this Kylo Ren story plays out! The main cover art above was created by artist Clayton Crain and the variant cover was created by Jodie Muir and sees Ben Solo transitioning into Kylo Ren. When previously talking about the series, Soule said:

“Sometimes Star Wars stories are like telling a great story and having a great time playing in this sandbox. And other times, Star Wars jobs are like ‘OK, we’ll give you an incredibly key piece of the overall mythology that you have to nail.’ You guys would not be very happy with me if I screw this up. And everyone here might not be very happy with the choices that I made.”

Soule went on to promise that any creative license he takes with the origins of Kylo Ren is firmly within the limits of the Star Wars Story Group:

“Any significant change in Star Wars, that isn’t just a little shade of a character that we know really well, it’s vetted to make sure that it feels like Star Wars, that it fits within the Star Wars Universe, that it balances within the story universe, and that isn’t in conflict with the Story Group. So you’re in this weird game of chess with invisible chess players, you can’t see the moves, and the only people who have a sense of the board are not really playing it with the story.”

The Rise of Kylo Ren #1 will release December 18th, which is the same day as the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The miniseries will run for four issues. Issue #2 won’t be hitting stores until January 15th, 2020.
