Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber Sold For $450,000 at Auction!

It was the weapon of choice by everyone's favorite Jedi in a galaxy far, far away and its worth about as much as a house. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the lightsaber prop used by Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back sold for just about a half a million dollars to the Ripley company, which is based in Orlando.

The lightsaber was part of the collection owned by producer Gary Kurtz and may be on display at one of the Believe It or Not locations around the country, but the company hasn't specified which one yet, the newspaper reported.

The lightsaber may have sold for a ton of cash ($450,000), but it's not even close to being the biggest Star Wars item auctioned off, an original R2-D2 unit that was used for the original trilogy sold for nearly $3 million.

The 43-inch tall unit was sold through the auction house Profiles in History and was compiled from parts used throughout filming the original films.

If you could own any piece of Star Wars history what would it be and how much would you be willing to pay for it?

I reckon ole Obi Wan looks pretty darn uncomfortable when he tells Luke that Darth Vader killed his father - almost as if it was supposed to be a lie all along.
