LUMBERJANES Comic Getting Live-Action Film Adaptation

Shannon WattersNoelle StevensonGrace Ellis, and Brooke A. Allen's comic Lumberjanes is headed for the big screen. The Eisner-nominated BOOM! Studios comic was originally published as a miniseries before becoming an ongoing title for the company, and The Wrap reports that a live-action adaptation is in the works at 20th Century Fox.

I haven't had a chance to check it out for myself yet, but the beloved comic follows the adventures of five awesome girls spending the summer at a scout camp where they battle supernatural creatures. It's apparently a great read, and it's always nice to see a female-centric Hollywood movie make it through the male-dominated system. Will Widger is set to write the screenplay, and he doesn't have any produced credits yet — although his film noir script The Munchkin made last year's Blacklist of the best unproduced screenplays. Here's hoping he's able to translate what everyone loves about the comics over into the film version. The studio is reportedly already thinking about getting a female directors as soon as the script is finished.

Have you read Lumberjanes? Would it make a good movie?
