Macaulay Culkin Confirms Long-Running HOME ALONE Rumor About His Stunt Double

t feels like no matter how many times we revisit Home Alone, there’s always something new to learn about the Christmas classic. Kevin McCallister may have been just eight years old when he was left defending his house from the Wet Bandits, but Macaulay Culkin has now confirmed a behind-the-scenes rumor that changes the way we look at some of those iconic moments.

During an interview on First We Feast while eating hot wings, Culkin revealed that his stunt double in Home Alone wasn’t another kid, it was actually a fully grown man in his 30s.

Culkin recalled the surreal moment he first met him:

“Yeah, his name was Larry, and I saw him in the wardrobe department for the first time. I get changed, and I walk out and there’s this guy, Larry, dressed exactly like me, because we’re both trying on the same outfit.

“I’m like, ‘Hey, Larry, how you doing?’ He goes [takes on gravely voice] ‘Hey, doing good. I’m Larry, your stunt guy.’ And he kind of like looks at me and goes, ‘How old do you think I am?’

“That’s a loaded question, I know he’s much older than me, because I was 9. I go, ‘13,’ much older than me. He thought that was funny.”

It turns out Larry wasn’t anywhere near 13, he was about 30 years old. But with a similar height and build to the young star, movie magic did its job. Watching the film, you’d never guess Kevin’s stunts were pulled off by a grown man in kids’ clothing.

If you’re wondering where you can spot Larry in the film, Culkin pointed to the scene when Kevin sneaks into his brother’s room and climbs the shelves for money. That entire collapse wasn’t Culkin, it was Larry, and it sounds like a brutal shoot.

“My memory of Larry [is] he’s climbing the shelf, trying to reach that thing at the top, and the whole shelf collapsed. It was viscous, that first take, it was viscous.

And then they do it again, there’s another take. Just ‘Boom!’ And they didn’t like the way everything fell. And they do it again, and they do it again, and they do it again. I’m going, ‘Please take it easy on Larry! He’s only 13 years old!’”

Even as a kid, Culkin couldn’t resist joking about Larry’s “age,” still calling him 13 despite knowing better. Meanwhile, the poor stuntman was repeatedly slammed with falling furniture.

The stunts in Home Alone were always part of the fun, from paint cans to blow torches, but hearing that a 30-year-old was the one taking some of those hits makes them even more impressive.

And while we can all laugh about the absurdity of a grown man doubling for Kevin McCallister, it’s clear Culkin never forgot Larry’s dedication.

More than three decades later, Home Alone continues to surprise us with stories like this. You can revisit Larry’s hard-hitting work by streaming the holiday classic now on Disney+.
