MADAME WEB Wins Worst Picture at 2024 Razzie Awards, Francsis Ford Coppola Fires Back After Winning Worst Director
The 45th Golden Raspberry Award winners have been announced and Madame Web is officially the Worst Picture of 2024. The movie also secured wins for Worst Actress (Dakota Johnson) and Worst Screenplay, making it the only film to claim three Razzies this year.
While Madame Web was the biggest loser, it wasn’t the only one. Joker: Folie à Deux and Unfrosted each took home two Razzies, with the latter earning Worst Actor for Jerry Seinfeld and Worst Actress for Amy Schumer.
Meanwhile, Francis Ford Coppola, one of Hollywood’s most legendary filmmakers, was crowned Worst Director for Megalopolis, and Jon Voight earned Worst Supporting Actor for his role in the same film.
Coppola ended up posting on Instagram to address his Razzie “win” and he fired back.
“In this wreck of a world today, where ART is given scores as if it were professional wrestling, I chose to NOT follow the gutless rules laid down by an industry so terrified of risk that despite the enormous pool of young talent at its disposal, may not create pictures that will be relevant and alive 50 years from now.”
Adding to the night’s eyebrow-raising wins, Joker: Folie à Deux stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga were labeled Worst Screen Couple.
But it wasn’t all about taking shots at Hollywood’s biggest names, there was a bright spot. Pamela Anderson took home the Razzie Redeemer Award for her role in The Last Showgirl, marking a full-circle moment from her 1996 Worst New Star dishonor.
Love them or hate them, the Razzies continue to be a uniquely brutal barometer for Hollywood’s misfires.
