Madonna Is Set to Direct a Biopic About Herself

I guess the only person that Madonna can trust with directing her biopic is herself. The entertainer has signed on to direct her own biopic that will tell the story of her life and career. She will direct from a script written by Diablo Cody (Juno).

Of course, Madonna is going to direct her own biopic, which will tell the story of her journey from New York City’s slums to the heights of global stardom. I don’t recall anyone who has directed their own biopic. When it comes to these kinds of films, usually the subject or relatives of the subject join the film production as a creative consultant and executive producer.

Madonna said in a statement:

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music.  Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

The movie is set up at Universal Pictures and is being guided by entertainment group chair Donna Langley and producer Amy Pascal. Langley called Madonna “the ultimate icon, humanitarian, artist and rebel.” She went on to say:

“With her singular gift of creating art that is as accessible as it is boundary-pushing, she has shaped our culture in a way very few others have.”

Pascal, who previously worked with Madonna on A League of Their Own back in 1992, added:

“This movie is an absolute labor of love for me. I have known Madonna since we made ‘A League of Their Own’ together, and I can’t imagine anything more thrilling than collaborating with her and Diablo on bringing her true-life story to the big screen with Donna and our partners at Universal.”

Madonna has previously directed two other films including the 2008 drama Filth and Wisdom and the 2011 W.E., both of which I haven’t seen.

What do you all think about Madonna directing her own biopic? Who knows, maybe she’ll also end up playing herself!
