Mads Mikkelsen and Diane Kruger Team Up for AI-Themed Sci-Fi Survival Thriller AMI
Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange) is headed to space for a new film project and he’s starring alongside Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) in the upcoming sci-fi survival thriller Ami, which is currently filming in Spain.
Directed by Fernando Szurman and written by John Wesley Norton and Ezequiel Martinez Jr., the story follows an astronaut (Mikkelsen) who crash-lands on an uncharted planet after a devastating accident. His only ally is Ami, a Quantum AI companion voiced by Kruger, who becomes his lifeline as he struggles to find a way home.
The synopsis teases that “as he navigates an alien landscape and a battle for survival, he is forced to confront the fragility of memory, the isolation of space, and the resilience of the human spirit.”
The project is being produced by Fishcorb, Capstone Studios, and Conch Republic Films, with Andres Sanchez on board as executive producer. Capstone Global will handle worldwide sales and present the film to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market in Los Angeles.
Capstone CEO Christian Mercuri shared his excitement, saying, “Ami is exactly the kind of daring, character-driven genre film that reflects Capstone’s commitment to globally resonant storytelling. It’s a rare combination of emotional intimacy and cinematic scale, brought to life by a world-class creative team.
“With Fernando’s distinctive vision and a cast of extraordinary talent, this project exemplifies the elevated, high-concept filmmaking we champion.”
First-time feature director Szurman added: “What excited me about Ami was the opportunity to tell a profoundly human story through a genre that allows for both scope and intimacy.
“I want to push the boundaries of sci-fi storytelling while grounding it in emotional truth. We’re not just making a survival film; we’re inviting audiences into a deeply personal space odyssey.”
Mikkelsen, a BAFTA nominee, has built a career out of powerful and unforgettable performances with films such as Another Round (2020), The Hunt (2013), Casino Royale (2006), Doctor Strange (2016), and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022).
Pairing him with Kruger and setting them in a high-stakes space survival story makes Ami one of the most intriguing sci-fi projects on the horizon.
